Peter Cullen
Your legacy is the light.
“Til all are one”
With profound sadness and deep respect…

Peter Cullen. An actor, a boxer, a polo player, a cowboy, a disc jockey, a writer, a singer, an announcer, a husband, a father, a grandfather, an icon and a friend.
For those of us who were lucky enough to know Peter and travel through time with him, we knew he was special. Yes, we also knew he could be stubborn, ornery and Irish. But like all “interesting” human beings he was wonderfully complicated.
As a traveling partner, he was a joy to be with. Because of his wealth of knowledge and experience he was far more sophisticated than I. He dressed impeccably and knew the best shoes, shirts, and jackets to wear, stores to frequent and restaurants and hotels to enjoy. He did this in a very easy and unpretentious way and was always quick to forgive my rather backward ways. His stories were convoluted and funny and an interesting journey worth taking. Oh, one thing I don’t want to forget, I cannot overstate the quality of his ease to laughter. Oh my, to hear that unrestrained laugh…I loved it.
When you think of our characters Optimus Prime and Megatron we were arch enemies and spent our entire time trying to destroy one another…but in real life we spent our entire time trying to destroy each other with laughter.
“Petro” was one of my nicknames for Mr. Cullen. He called me “Megs” and “kid”—I especially liked “kid.”
Peter Cullen was a huge talent who gave life to so many characters throughout the years. From creatures like the Predator, to cars like Karr, and slow sweet Eeyore to the ultimate cult hero Optimus Prime. The honesty and care he put into his characters showed the deep respect he had for his audience and fans.
His gift was enormous! Through the breadth of his work, in film, radio, television, games and now technology, Peter’s legacy is guaranteed, a well-deserved permanent part of the culture.
In awe and never forgotten.
